Other things The Marine Canvas Company does.

Canvas Care and Cleaning

No matter who fabricated the canvas on your boat, regular care and cleaning will extend the life of your investment. We can recommend the proper cleaning agents and techniques, or provide full cleaning, repair and storage of your canvas, it's up to you.

At The Marine Canvas Company we use Tenara® thread by GoreTex exclusively. It will outlast the fabric in any system and never need re-stitching. If your canvas has been fabricated with polyester thread it can fail in a few years. To test the thread, gently insert a small awl under a stitch in the area most exposed to the sun. If it breaks now is the time to get the canvas re-stitched. Waiting until a seam fails and starts to open can significantly increase the labor cost of a re-stitch - the main cost.

Canvas Water Proofing

After a few seasons your canvas may need waterproofing which can restore the performance of your top to its original. When it's time for waterproofing, the best type of sealant is a water based product.

303 High Tech Fabric Guard restores lost water repellency and stain repellency to factory new levels. 303 High Tech Fabric Guard resists soiling, impedes mildew formation and helps protect against the sun's harmful UV rays.

303 High Tech Fabric Guard is powerful enough to protect fabrics in the harshest environment ... outdoors ... Yet safe enough for the finest fabrics. If you have any questions regarding 303 Fabric Guard, please contact us.

Canvas
Re-stitching

When thread on a boat top wears out, breaks and unravels, it’s time for a re-stitch. Even marine grade UV protected poly thread will break down after about 3 - 5 years of sun exposure. (Gore’s Tenara Thread will not break down. It’s guaranteed for the life of the boat top and is used on all custom work at The Marine Canvas Company).
